Thomas A. Farrington is a five year prostate cancer survivor. When he was diagnosed with cancer in 2000, at the age of 56, he described himself as being completely uninformed about the disease and his extremely high risk level due to his family history. After quickly choosing a treatment, driven mostly out of fear, he began to study and understand prostate cancer and the various treatment options available to him. Subsequently he cancelled his original treatment plans two days before he was to enter the hospital, and independently gathered data and continued to analyze his treatment options.
After choosing a treatment that took him away from his home in Concord, Massachusetts, Mr. Farrington continued to study prostate cancer and decided that his experience facing the disease along with the experiences of other men in treatment with him could help men that would follow them along the journey of hope to beat prostate cancer. In 2001 he released "Battling The Killer Within", a book that profiled the experiences of himself and nineteen men in treatment with him. The book also provides an insightful look at the prostate care system in the United States, an overview of treatment options, and other information men and their families would need to successfully face and beat prostate cancer.
Following the release of "Battling The Killer Within", which became a nationally acclaimed book, Mr. Farrington was a featured speaker at numerous events, and he conducted prostate health workshops and seminars around the country. In 2003, he founded the Prostate Health Education Network, Inc.
